Ellis County, TX  (JULY 1, 2024) The United Way of West Ellis County (UWWEC) hosted its annual Day of Action on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at a local nonprofit, The Village. On this day, United Way’s across the world mobilize numerous volunteers - community members, local nonprofit agencies, employees of corporate partners - for one powerful day of volunteerism. It is part of United Way’s work to build stronger communities where everyone can thrive.

The Village is a local organization that works to support domestic violence survivors, single parents and foster families. Their facility provides resources and support for those most vulnerable in our community. The mission of the Village is to create a safe and nurturing environment to help families transition from crisis to stability. They walk alongside these families to ensure they are receiving a hand up to be successful as they move forward in life. The Village helps connect these families to all the wrap-around services they may need such as food, counseling, life coaching, childcare, etc., all while providing them with a safe place to live.

UWWEC was joined for their Day of Action by volunteers from Superior Construction, Google Data Center, Target Distribution, the Ellis County Homeless Coalition and many community members. Over fifty individuals committed to sweating it out in the heat to help this organization prepare a 12 acre property that will eventually be developed with several housing units to assist those facing an immediate housing need in Ellis County.  These volunteers cleaned and updated flowerbeds and surrounding landscape, painted interior walls and baseboards of an already existing home, power washed and painted a barn used on the property to house animals and mowed continuously for over two hours.

Alex Blake with The Village shares, “The recent United Way Day of Action in Ellis County was a remarkable display of community unity. Businesses and nonprofits from across the area joined forces to make a difference together. I was amazed by the United Way Day of Action.  It showed that when we all come together, we can achieve amazing things, especially for vulnerable children and families. The event was more than just a day of service; it was a day filled with hope. Hope was everywhere. I believe that the hope deposited that day will keep changing lives for the better.”

He continued to share, “The success of the Day of Action highlights the power of working together as a community to tackle challenges. It sets a positive example for future efforts in Ellis County, proving that united efforts can create lasting impact. We want to thank everyone who took part. Your support is making a real difference."

The services and resources that The Village is already providing and will continue to provide as it grows and develops, is helping meet the need and fill a very large gap in Ellis County.  Vulnerable families and children will now have a safe place to stay as they work to transition to the next chapter in their lives. Because of the partnerships that The Village has worked to create, the wrap-around services and support that these individuals and families will receive, will only further their success.  If you would like to learn more about The Village, visit www.TheHarvestVillage.org

The impact made at The Village during this year’s UWWEC Day of Action would not have been possible without the outpouring of generosity and servant leadership from our many corporate partners and their volunteers.  The United Way of West Ellis County is grateful to all who donated their time and hard work to give back on our #2024DayofAction.
